Subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT) is the most widely used method worldwide. Subcutaneous injections ( allergy shots) are performed periodically. The allergy / immunology specialist prescribes personalized application schedules for each patient.
There are two phases of treatment:
The build-up phase of allergic desensitization consists of receiving injections with increasing amounts of standardized allergenic extracts about one to two tines per week..When the patient reaches the effective dose for the control of the allergic disease the maintenance phase begins, which generally consists of monthly SCIT applications for a period of 3 to 5 years.
Although reactions are not common, they can happen. We may have reactions at the site of application and occasionally systemic reactions. Therefore, the allergy shot should be performed under medical supervision in a place with adequate infrastructure to meet possible adverse reactions. It is recommended that the patient wait in your doctor' s office at least 30 minutes after received allergy shot.
